Most frequently, customised coins are developed for the army. Like dog tags, they were widely used for the first time ever in the special forces of the US military. Challenge coin – as this is their official name – are informal badges, are symbols of being a soldier in a particular unit. Such a souvenir is received from a commander of a given unit and is not only a token of recognition, but also of a brotherly bond uniting soldiers.
The ceremony, although not official, does involve following a certain rite. Soldiers who are honored by receiving a coin are usually surprised by this fact. A coin is most frequently received during a welcome. A soldier′s commander hides a coin in hand, stretching it for a handshake, and a soldier only becomes aware of a distinction when this piece of metal remains in their hand. Challenge coins have become popular in special forces all over the world, and in Poland were in use, among others, in GROM.
Our company specialises in making metal castings. In the offer of MCC Medale, there are also customised coins. Like our other products, their designs can also be customised.
The basis of a design of every coin is determining its size and shape. The customers of MCC Medale may order coins of the following range of diameters (approximately) 3 cm-5 cm, and thickness of 3-6 mm. Although traditional coins are round, our company can prepare castings in any shape. Customers looking for non-typical solutions may order coins in the shape of a triangle, square or another polygon.
Every item made by our company is based on unique and customized design. Our graphics designers are able to propose a solution on the basis of received guidelines or graphic materials. A coin design may be prepared in 2D or 3D. The first of them is good in the case of simple designs, which do not require presenting many details. The 3D technique allows to develop more complex designs containing, e.g. the presentation of men, vehicles, buildings or animals. The choice of technique depends on the level of complexity desired by a customer.
All customised coins may come in one of the metal colours in our offer. Our customers may choose one of glossy and mat shades of gold, silver and bronze, or, upon a special order, other metal colours. Particular design element may also be covered with special enamels in any desired colour.
